HOW TO MAKE A SMOOTH BATHING SOAP...

BASIC SOAP MAKING EQUIPMENT OR SUPPLIES:

  • Rubber Gloves

  • Plastic Goggles/Face Shield

  • Surgical Mask

  • Stick Blender

  • Thermometer

  • Glass or Tupperware Measuring Pitcher

  • Heat-Proof Stirring Spoons

  • Measuring Cups & Measuring Spoons

  • 1 Large Microwaveable Bowl

  • 1 Small Bowl

  • Electric Scale that measures ounces and grams

  • Soap Mold(s) – Silicone, Glass, Wood; Homemade or Store bought

  • Parchment Paper

  • Lye

  • Oils

  • Well Ventilated Room or Plastic cover for your workspace

NOTE:  Any equipment or supplies that make contact with lye should be devoted to soap making!  You cannot use them for cooking once you’ve used them for soaping!

SAFETY FIRST!!!

It is EXTREMELY important when soaping, to use a well-ventilated room, while using rubber gloves, goggles and a surgical mask.  Proper attire is also a must, you should wear long sleeves, long pants, and close toed shoes.   

Just like with keeping bees, proper attire is a must!

SAFETY EQUIPMENTS FOR SOAP MAKING

A.    Safety Goggles

B.    Rubber or Latex Gloves

C.    Oven Mitt

D.    Long Sleeved Shirt

E.    Apron

F.    well-ventilated work Place.!


INGREDIENTS 

  • ·       1300 ml of oil of your choice e.g. Palm Kernel Oil (PKO)
  • ·       300 ml of coconut oil
  • ·       250 grams of caustic soda (sodium hydroxide)
  • ·       100 grams of Soda Ash Light (As Additive)
  • ·       50 grams of Borax (As Forming Booster)
  • ·       100 ml of Sodium Silicate
  • ·       75 grams of SLS (sodium lauryl sulfate)
  • ·       300 grams of Kojic Acid Powder as Lightening Agent.
  • ·       150 ml of Essential Oil of your Choice e.g. Strawberry, Tangerine, Lemon, Lavender etc. (As Fragrance).
  • ·       1800 ml of Distilled Water or Fruit and Vegetable Juice Extracts
INSTRUCTIONS.

Step 1:

*Dissolve the 250 grams of the Caustic Soda in 1400 ml of Distilled Water stir properly and let it stay for 24 Hours.

*Dissolve the 100 grams of the Soda Ash Light in 250 ml Distilled of Water stir properly and let it stay for 6 Hours

*Dissolve the 75 grams of SLS (sodium lauryl sulfate) in 150 ml of Distilled Water stir properly and keep.

*Add the Oils together and Warm very brief on a low heat flam or microwave.

Step 2:

Bring the Caustic Soda Solution pour it in a spacious mixing bowl, add the Soda Ash Light Solution to it, stir and keep.

Step 3:

Pour the warmed oil into your Soap Making Bowl, Then Bring the Caustic Soda and Soda Ash Light Solution empty (pour) gently into the warmed oil and stir continuously.

Add the SLS, Sodium Silicate, Borax, Kojic Acid Powder one after another while continue stirring; then add your Essential oil and Spices if any and continue stirring till a smooth soap is achieve.

This process should be completed within less than an hour or little more depending on the ventilation in the room or work place and some unknown conditions. Then the soap should be ready to pour into mould immediately a smooth pulp is achieved.

Step 4:

Pour your soap into mould in a well ventilated room and let it stay for 3 to 5 days before removing it from mould then take it to your soap rack and let it stay for 4 weeks to cure.

As earlier said, Soap is usable after 2 days of production.

FOLLOW THIS INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY.

THE DRYING PROCESS ENABLE IT TO BE HARDEN SO THAT IT CAN LAST LONGER AND LATHER WELL.

THIS PROCESS IS CALLED CURING.





THE CURING PROCESS IS THE PERIOD THAT YOU KEEP YOUR SOAP AFTER REMOVING IT FROM THE MOLDS SO THAT IT CAN DRY PROPERLY AND BE HARDEN.

CURING SIMPLY CREATE A FORMAL BAR THAT LAST VERY WELL.
